Adding Found Items to Your String Art
Recently I worked on some string art pieces for the Vintage and Made Fair in Des Moines and felt that this was the perfect market to introduce some new designs. I had been holding on to some antique tin ceiling tiles I had purchased at Mabel. Inspired in Geneseo, IL, as well as vintage yard sticks I had acculumated from ARS: Architectural Rescue Shop at The Jipp in Davenport, IA and Artifacts in Iowa City, IA.
I knew immediately when I saw the tile what I wanted to put on top (for a design), but the rulers were a little more of challenge. It wasn't until I happened upon this poem - Beyond Measure, by Michelle Stevenson that I knew what the design would be for the rulers.
The tin tile was nailed on to a 24x12 pine board and all nails were "aged" with bronze, gold and copper paint. I used the Platinum Sparkle Caron Simply Soft Party Yarn for the string art element (this yarn can be purchased at JoAnn's at the following link).
The rulers were glued to a 24x10 pine board that was stained walnut. I used Diamond Lion Brand Vanna's Glamour Yarn for the string art element (this yarn can be purchased at JoAnn's at the following link.)
